waiting at the North Carolina State Line

I took me a trip, to Tennessee for a little while,
I wanted to stop by and see your beautiful smile.
things didn't turn out the way we wanted it to,
my heart was broken, I was sad and blue.

you had to leave to visit a sick friend
we couldn't meet but several emails you did send,
oh how I wish we could have worked it out,
but god will make it happen another time, of that I have no doubt.

I went for a drive and oh how the mountain road did wind,
before I knew it, I was at the north Carolina state line.
I stood there watching the cars go by,
but you we're not there, I just wanted to cry.

it's been 7 long years, since I found you my friend,
and my dream of meeting you, will never end.
four state lines may keep us apart,
but I'll always keep you close to my heart.

next time I stand at that north Carolina line,
you'll be standing there with me, you're hand in mine.
